A message from our VP of Membership:

Hello!

My name is Julia Thomson and I am the Vice President of Membership here at UC Berkeley’s Panhellenic Council (PHC). This means that I am in charge of helping those interested in Greek Life go through the recruitment experience. If you are not currently a member of a sorority here at Cal but wish to be, you are a potential new member or PNM.

Below this message, you will find an index of all information related to recruitment. I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about the financial expectations of being in a sorority, leadership opportunities, and academic support. Also, go check out each of the chapter’s Instagram pages for more information on their Continuous Open Bidding process.

When I went through Fall Primary Recruitment in the Fall of 2021, I trusted the process and ended up in an amazing chapter that provided me with the support to succeed at Berkeley, including this position. I truly love Greek life with all of my heart and would encourage anyone to look into the possibility of joining a chapter on campus. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at phc.membership@calgreeks.com.

Go Bears and Go Greek!

Why Greek Life? There are so many benefits to being in a sorority, but the most common is for finding sisterhood. You can read more about why joining a sorority is a transformative experience and the specific opportunities it offers for its members in our Benefits of Greek Life page.

There are rules in recruitment for both chapters and potential new members! Learn about these expectations in the Recruitment Expectations Page.

To learn more about the schedule for recruitment and what to expect each day, see the Recruitment Schedule Page. Recruitment wil run from August 24th to August 29th. Each day has a different number of parties, but PNMs will not be attending every single party, with the xception ofr the first two days of recruitment. If you anticipate having a time conflict, please consult this page for proper protocol.

If your are interested in learning about financial expectations for being in Greek Life, please visit the Finances Page.

We understand that people are worried about what to wear, what to bring, and how to have the best recruitment possible. We hope the information available in the Guidance Page and What to Wear Page can soothe these concerns.

Regarding accessibility, the majority of our houses at Berkeley PHC are not ADA accessibility due to their age and history. In each chapter's individual page in the Chapter Directory, there will be a section for each chapter about the level of accessibility they provide. However, each chapter is required to and has completed an ADA accessibility plan in order to provide an equal recruitment experience to all. If you require any accommodations please communicate this information in the signup form for recruitment and to phc.membership@calgreeks.com.

If you have any allergies, please include this on the signup form for Recruitment where asked. This information will be passed on to those in charge of individual chapters’ recruitment so they are aware and can make required adjustments on Preference Night, in which food is served. If you require any additional accommodations or have any questions, please feel free to contact Allison Mays at phc.membership@calgreeks.com

Our members come from a variety of backgrounds, but all are members of PHC. If you want to learn more about our members, visit our Membership Experiences Page where you can read about some of our PHC sisters.

If you would like to explore the chapters that you will have the opportunity to meet during Fall Primary Recruitment, click here to our Chapter Directory. We have thirteen chapters here at UC Berkeley: twelve National Panhellenic Council (NPC) chapters and one local chapter.

If you have any questions that were not answered in the above pages, we suggest the FAQ and Information for Parents Page.
