You become a part of something that helps make such a large university seem smaller and more relatable.
Why are you excited to be a recruitment counselor? For me, recruitment was an incredibly foreign and overwhelming experience. I have had such an amazing experience in Greek Life and I want to help others share that experience as well.

Name: Sara Billman
Year & Major: 4th Year; Public Health
Favorite Memory at Cal: My favorite memory at Cal was my first intercollegiate figure skating competition. Joining the Cal Figure Skating Team was a great transition from competitive figure skating, which I had been doing since the age of 3, to what my life would be like at Cal. I'll never forget the feeling when the announcer called my name followed by, for the first time in my life, my college, instead of my home club. It was in that moment that I realized UC Berkeley was truly home for me. The world I had known for 16 years collided with my new world and the amount of support I received from not only those who had known me my whole life, but also my new friends at Cal, was incredible. I'll never forget that defining moment in my identity transition and while it's been wonderful to learn more about the depths of my soul, I'll always be thankful for the skating team and for getting to share my biggest passion with others.
Hobbies & Interests: Figure Skating, fitness, sports medicine, exercise science, hiking, waking up at 5am, giving tours of campus, Public Health/ Psych Research, nutrition, travel, Catholicism, mentorship, and sharing Cal Day
Favorite Part about Greek Life: My favorite part about greek life is the community's ability to make UC Berkeley much smaller and expand one's exposure to campus activities. As someone who had planned on attending a small liberal arts college, I was scared to get lost in Cal's 26,000 undergraduates. Going Greek not only enabled me to know more people throughout my day on campus, but also allowed me to learn about or attend activities I probably would have not attended otherwise. For example, becoming a tour guide would not have occurred if it were not for the mentorship of a greek friend. Many of my best friends are in completely different colleges than I am (Chemistry & Engineering) yet I've had the experience of sharing a room with them. I've been able to attend performances for Cal's logging sports, various dance organizations, theater plays, and volunteer or attend various philanthropy events. Going Greek has allowed me to experience many of Cal's offerings and has made this giant university much much smaller in the absolute best way possible.
Why are you excited to be a recruitment counselor? I am so excited to be a recruitment counselor because I want to help each of you reach your potential as an undergraduate and have the best Berkeley experience possible. Personally, I believe going greek has done this for me. I am hoping to impact each of you by empowering you during recruitment and beyond to see your potential and have confidence throughout the process. I want each of you to know that you are a vital part of Berkeley. I am excited to meet you all and help you start to build your Berkeley story!

I'm a life long fan of the 49ers, Giants, and of course Cal (GO BEARS!). Country is music is my favorite genre, so if there are any country concerts close to Berkeley you know I'll be there!

Favorite Memory at Cal: I have quite a few favorite memories at Cal. I think some of my most exciting moments include receiving my acceptance letter to Berkeley, waiting to open my bid on Bid Day, declaring my major and getting my first research position. That love, support, and guidance is something that I will be forever grateful for.

Favorite Part about Greek Life: My favorite part about being a part of Greek life is that it is a perfect balance between academics, philanthropy, sisterhood and social activities. At Berkeley, it's so easy to forget to have fun and going Greek really helps in providing that full college experience in which you're studying, but also giving back to your community and developing relationships and making connections with other people. You're always growing and everyone is so different and so I think it's really exciting to meet so many new people at philanthropy, social and sisterhood events and to make tons of amazing memories all of the time.
Why are you excited to be a recruitment counselor? I am SO EXCITED to be a Recruitment Counselor because not only do I get to meet and work with many wonderful women of the Panhellenic community, I'm also meeting some amazing potential new members. I hope to become someone that they can trust, look up to and come to with any concerns that they may have. I am so excited for the friendships that I will make and I know that this will be an experience in which I will learn and grow from quite a bit. It's just so amazing to me that I will be helping other women find a home away from home (so cheesy I know) in which they'll receive unconditional love and support throughout their years here at UC Berkeley.
